Plant A Tree Program
It goes without saying that nothing but good can come from planting a tree. Have you ever stopped to consider what a tree does for us?
· Provides shade-making our homes cooler without the use of an air conditioner
· Traps moisture-the leaves provide ground cover so moisture is not evaporated as quickly, traps snow in drifts
· Provides habitat- for squirrels, birds, insects, etc
· Provides fruit or nuts-many trees and shrubs provide an abundance of berries, fruit or nuts for both people and animals to enjoy
These are just a few of the obvious benefits of a live tree.
When it comes to the actual planting of a tree there are a few things to consider if you want a strong, healthy tree.

The best source for information is your local greenhouse. Chances are if they don’t know lots about trees they will send you to someone who does – especially if you buy your tree from them.
Plant A Tree Program - Overview
This site offers a tree planting program for anyone interested. What we offer:
1. choice of trees native to the planting area
2. care of your tree (fertilizer, water, weeding, staking)
3. a ‘friend of the environment’ certificate stating the number, exact location and type of tree(s) you have purchased
4. follow-up certificates for each additional year you choose to support your tree(s)
The location I have chosen for the trees is along a small stream. It is cover with native grass but years of feeding livestock has stripped it of any trees or shrubs. My goal is to plant a variety of native trees and shrubs in such a way as to provide a forest like habitat for the many birds and small animals that struggle to survive along this barren stream.
This area is approximately 10 acres in size and will easily support several hundred trees. Once this stream frontage is established there is an adjacent 60 acre parcel of farm land that we can expand into.
This is a project that requires many helping hands. I am committed to providing the labour if you can find it in yourself to provide some trees. Together lets do something positive for our environment.
